Cricket’s Birth (3:26)

Warning: This is an audio recording of the actual birth of my actual daughter, so there is moaning and crying and stuff.  Still, it may be one of the quietest births on record.

Hard to believe it has been over four months already.

Literally.  The horse paints.  Karen and I interviewed the horse and his owner Carol late this summer.  I’m still working on the transcript and pulling pieces together for a little video to share online.  It was an interesting conversation - stay tuned!

Future Site of Mike’s Club House
Below the New Zealand flag will be a row of shuttered windows and the bar.  Off camera is the antique cork-insulated icebox that will be retrofitted into a beer fridge.  Lisa is fond of the saying: “The only difference between a dream and a goal is a plan.”

A Rare Textual Post

Some small number of people may have noticed that this page has not been updated recently.  There are a couple reasons for this.

First, I was working very hard to finish up an End-of-Year presentation to close out my time as an AmeriCorps VISTA member.  That presentation took the form of two videos, which can be viewed here.

A few days after my sleepless presentation day, my daughter was born a bit early but healthy and normal on July 21 at 12:02.  Cricket Pearl, as you may imagine, now consumes a lot of time (which is great).

Nevertheless, I plan to keep this tumblr blog updated, as much as possible.  I am also working on a longer story about a horse, a small something about bowling and I am almost certainly starting a year-long project on “Teachers At Home” this September.  On top of all that, I am taking a “genealogy for librarians” class this semester which may help uncover some interesting family stories.

A few things are certain:

  1. Life will never be the same
  2. There will be no shortage of material for this blog
  3. I better learn to take my own documentary photography, and fast!
